HOW DO I...
OBTAIN REPEAT PRESCRIPTIONS?

Repeat prescriptions will be issued at the doctor's discretion and are normally for patients on long-term treatment.

Requests for prescriptions can be made in writing or by calling at the surgery. We are unable to take orders over the telephone or issue repeat prescriptions at weekends, public holidays or out of normal surgery hours. Please allow three complete working days before collection and make allowances for weekends and public holidays. Please use the repeat tear-off slip given with a previous prescription. Please try and collect prescriptions after 2.30pm.We are part of the twelve monthly repeat prescription scheme for patients who are on long-term medication and their medication has been stabilised. Please discuss this with your local pharmacy so that they may assess if you would be a suitable patient to join the scheme.

HOW DO I...
MAKE APPOINTMENTS?

Appointments may be made by telephoning (0161) 426 5850 or by calling at the surgery.

There is a menu of appointments available. Most routine appointments are made up to one week ahead. The duty doctor appointments are made on the day and some appointments are reserved for working patients and may be made further in advance. We have limited appointments between 8.00 to 9.00am and 5.00 to 6.00pm with most of the doctors, reserved for working patients. (This idea was suggested by the patient participation group as a result of a patient questionnaire.)

The receptionist will endeavour to give you an appointment with your preferred doctor, but this is not always possible. Please understand that the receptionist can only offer available appointments.

In an emergency all patients will be seen by the duty doctor the same day (an emergency is a condition which the patient feels cannot wait until the next day). Please note that the duty doctor clinic appointments may be shorter than routine appointments in order to see all the patients who have requested appointments on that day. Please refrain from discussing additional non-emergency conditions as this may delay other patients.

We have a daily emergency clinic for children under the age of 12 (Monday to Friday mornings except Bank Holidays).

We would appreciate if you would consider the needs of all our patients. We have an obligation to balance the individual requirements of a patient during appointments with other patients waiting to be seen in the same surgery. There will be times when unforeseen medical emergencies may delay your appointment time (for example if the doctor is called out on an urgent home visit, is presented with a serious medical condition which requires more time to assess and arrange medical admission to hospital).

If a patient presents with more than one medical condition, the doctor has the right to ask the patient to make a further appointment if the doctor is running late (due to previous medical emergencies) or if the doctor feels there is not sufficient time to deal with all additional queries. We apologise if this causes any inconvenience.

MISSED APPOINTMENTS

Unfortunately there is a growing number of appointments that patients do not attend.  This significantly affects the ability of other patients to book appointments more quickly with a GP of their choice. Please telephone as soon as possible if for any reason you no longer require an appointment or are unable to attend.

HOW DO I...
OBTAIN HOME VISITS?

All requests for home visits will be medically assessed. Please note that home visits are for housebound patients who are unable to travel. NB: when patients or relatives request a home visit, if the patient requires immediate or urgent medical attention then the receptionist or doctor may advise the patient or relative to call a 999 ambulance.  From a safety point of view we would also ask the patient or relative to consider calling a 999 ambulance if the patient’s medical condition deteriorates whilst waiting for a home visit. .

PLEASE PHONE BEFORE 10.00AM IF POSSIBLE.

HOW DO I...
OBTAIN RESULTS OF TESTS?

Patients are responsible for telephoning the health centre for the results of investigations and blood tests that are ordered directly by a GP (please telephone after 2.00pm). (This includes x-rays and ultrasound scans which are requested directly by a GP.)
Re. hospital tests - please note that the result of any investigation requested by a hospital doctor is the responsibility of that doctor. The hospital doctor is then responsible for informing the patient of the result.

HOW DO I...
REGISTER AS A PATIENT?

Please being your medical card at reception. If you are unable to find it, you still able to register. You will be given a form to complete - please do so as fully as possible.
